BUDA
In Argentina Buda (Buddha) is the brand name of a summer spiral incense used to repel mosquitos in the summer nights. For people who grew up in Argentina the aroma of Buda immediately brings memories of summer nights, as well as the humid, hot summer sunny mornings with the lingering smell after the incense had extinguished through the night. And Tony uses that imagery to introduce a series of images, also familiar in Catholic households… of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Guardian Angel painting on the wall; or of the shows that our generation of black and white TV watchers enjoyed (Tony likes scary and suspense movies)…. And invariably there was inner world that had that scenario as backdrop, and that too is also remembered, relieved: The horrible fears, the emptiness, and feeling of being lost. But, most importantly, the triumphant realization that one is able to love in spite of it all.
